our process

Here is a general overview of our ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) process, including the integration of VR therapy:

Step 1: Intake Session In this session, you'll meet Dr. Drake and Jacqueline to discuss your treatment plan, address questions, and schedule future sessions. The session includes history-taking and concludes with a meditation led by Jacqueline, identifying key areas for ketamine support.

Step 2: Preparation Meeting Dr. Drake will explain the logistics of your first ketamine session, including arrival instructions, attire, fasting status, and medication adjustments. You'll learn about potential side effects and benefits, and set intentions for your treatment.

Step 3: Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) You will experience in-person treatment at The Drake Center with Dr. Drake and Jacqueline present. Jacqueline checks your vitals and leads a centering exercise, either through meditation or VR, depending on your needs. You'll receive a ketamine injection and undergo a one-hour treatment with support from Dr. Drake and Jacqueline. The session ends with a brief discussion, and you'll leave with a driver once stable.

Step 4: Integration Sessions Returning for integration sessions, you'll discuss treatment experiences and insights with Dr. Drake and Jacqueline, exploring ways to enhance these through meditation or creative activities. VR technology will also be introduced for creative and meditative uses, empowering you to apply treatment insights in your daily life, like using meditation for stress or creating meaningful art.

  • Is Ketamine therapy right for me?
The Drake Center is a Michigan ketamine therapy center with a focus on psychotherapy, emotional healing, and creative therapies which are combined and make our integrated approach to healing so effective. All of our patients begin their journey with an initial consultation with our medical director. During this visit, you will discuss your unique circumstances including medical and psychiatric history as well as any active life stressors. We will attempt to answer all questions and recommend ketamine treatment as appropriate. You are also advised to discuss with your current primary physician and or therapist/ psychiatrist.
  • What kind of ketamine treatments does The Drake Center offer?
At the Drake Center, we administer ketamine via intramuscular (IM) injection or shot. We find that this approach leads to the deepest dissociative experience and enhances the overall impact of the treatment. This in conjunction with an integrated approach which includes creative therapies and psychotherapy leads to deeper and longer lasting impact of the treatment.
  • Do you accept insurance?
We are not currently accepting insurance. We do however accept all major credit cards including HSA accounts. We may be able to provide a superbill which can be submitted to your insurance company. We also have 0% interest financing options. Click here to learn more about our financing options.
  • What is ketamine and ketamine infusion therapy?
Ketamine is a fast-acting, quickly metabolized, non-opioid anesthetic. It has been used in and out of the hospital for safe, effective pain relief for decades and is the most common anesthetic used globally. Ketamine is routinely administered by paramedics, emergency room physicians, and anesthesiologists for acute pain relief and anesthesia, though in much higher doses than we use for ketamine therapy. Ketamine has been proven to quickly reduce symptoms (from days to weeks) associated with depression, anxiety, and PTSD, facilitating psychotherapeutic support and improving quality of life. Ketamine therapy has also shown benefits with some chronic neurological pain conditions, including migraine and complex regional pain syndrome.
  • How many treatments will I need?
While some patients achieve significant improvement after 1-2 treatments, most will need 4-6 ketamine treatments. During your treatment you will also receive psychotherapy and creative therapies. Our holistic transformative process is called “The Way of the Butterfly.”
  • What conditions can ketamine therapy treat?
Depression, PTSD, Anxiety, Migraines IBS, Chronic Pain CRPS, Stress Related Illness, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue.
  • How does ketamine work?
Ketamine repairs and enhances neural connectivity in the brain. Research has shown that repeated or prolonged exposure to stress (physical or emotional pain, fear, trauma) damages the connections between brain cells. Ketamine has been proven to help repair those damaged connections. Ketamine acts at many different sites in the brain. Although its mechanisms are not fully understood, current thinking supports the actions of ketamine on the surface of certain brain cells as responsible for its rapid and prolonged effects. Ketamine is an N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor blocker. Blocking this receptor allows for the increased release of glutamate, an abundant neurotransmitter responsible for several central nervous system functions.
  • How much does Ketamine therapy cost?
The long-term costs for our treatment regimen is generally less than most centers because our approach involves fewer overall ketamine treatments. We offer financing for those who qualify. Patients who finance pay roughly $333 a month for 12 months.
